Long ago, there were five monarchs who fancied themselves gods.
The humans they ruled over admired them, for under their grasp, the kingdom thrived. The humans cast aside the gods, turning their worship to their beloved rulers, instead.
But the monarchs were simply false idols who took credit for what the gods had truly provided, and without the offerings from the humans, the gods became embittered, turning their backs on them. No longer did the kingdom thrive, and soon the monarchs’ hold on their position of power turned into a menacing grip, holding the people under their oppressive thumb.
Helios, being a generous god, turned his sights back to the lost humans, offering them their salvation.
He would do away with the monarchs, and, in doing so, revealed the true beasts hidden beneath their kind exterior.
Deciding it was not enough to simply send them to Tartarus, Helios cursed the monarchs to an eternal sleep, entrapping them in a prison made of his own golden chariot, their souls tied to a pendant made with his own bloody tears.
Or so the stories say…
